Joists, Footing and Interior Walls
Demo revealed multiple severely degraded roof joists. We eventually replaced the vast majority of roof and floor joists with new LVL members which are substantially stronger than regular lumber. Each butt end was pocketed into the masonry and taped and caulked in accord with best passive house retrofit practices. (See 475 Building Supply) In due course, 100% of the interior masonry wall surfaces were parged with lime mortar mix which bonded with and fortified the the original, creating an air tight, water tight and vapor open structural masonry wall.
